1About ScienceStar
ScienceStar operates the website primayscience.org ("the Site"). We are an independent free educational platform providing Singapore Primary Science revision materials for students in Primary 3 through PSLE (approximately ages 9 to 12), their parents, and their teachers.
The Site offers quizzes, flashcards, study notes, diagrams, and practice papers aligned to the MOE 2026 Primary Science syllabus. All content is provided free of charge. To cover the cost of running the Site, we display advertisements served by Google AdSense.
This Privacy Policy applies to all pages and features of primayscience.org. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2Data We Collect
ScienceStar is deliberately designed to operate without collecting personal information from users. Specifically:
- We do not require registration, login, or account creation of any kind
- We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any personally identifiable information through the Site
- We do not use Google Analytics or any other behavioural analytics service
- We do not operate any servers that store user data
- We do not use user tracking, fingerprinting, or behavioural profiling of any kind
Third-party services we embed (Google AdSense and Google Fonts) may collect limited technical data as described in Sections 4 and 6 below.
3Children's Privacy
ScienceStar is used primarily by children aged 9 to 12, together with their parents and teachers. We take children's privacy extremely seriously and have made specific design and configuration choices to protect young users.
- We do not knowingly collect any personal data from children under 13
- We do not allow children to create accounts, submit personal information, or post content
- We do not use interest-based advertising, remarketing, or behavioural targeting for any user on the Site
- All Google AdSense advertising is configured as Non-Personalised Ads (NPA) site-wide — see Section 4
- We do not share any user data with data brokers, advertisers, or third parties beyond what is described in this policy
ScienceStar complies with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2012 and takes all reasonable measures to ensure our platform is safe, appropriate, and private for young learners.
📢 4. Google AdSense — Advertising on ScienceStar
ScienceStar displays advertisements served by Google AdSense (Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA). These advertisements help us keep the Site free for all students and their families.
Non-Personalised Ads (NPA) configuration: We have applied the requestNonPersonalizedAds=1 parameter to our AdSense implementation across the entire Site. This means:
- Google does not use your browsing history, interest profile, or personal data to select which ads to show you
- Ads shown on ScienceStar are selected based on the content of the page being viewed — for example, a photosynthesis page may show science or education-related ads
- No behavioural profiling, interest-based targeting, or remarketing is applied to any user of this Site
- The non-personalised standard is applied to all users globally, including Singapore users
What Google AdSense may still do under NPA: Even under non-personalised ads configuration, Google AdSense may use cookies for these limited purposes only:
- Frequency capping — preventing the same ad from being shown too many times
- Aggregated ad reporting — non-identifiable statistics about ad impressions and clicks
- Fraud detection and abuse prevention — identifying invalid traffic
Children's advertising protection: Google's own policies prohibit personalised advertising on content primarily directed at children under 13. Since ScienceStar's primary audience includes children aged 9 to 12, we have applied the non-personalised ads setting across the entire Site rather than page-by-page, ensuring consistent protection for all users at all times.
Google's policies: Google AdSense is governed by the Google Advertising Policy and Google Privacy Policy.
If you see an advertisement on ScienceStar that appears inappropriate for a children's educational platform, please contact us at hello@primayscience.org and we will investigate.
5Cookies and Cookie Consent
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by a website. Here is a clear breakdown of cookie usage on ScienceStar.
Cookies set by ScienceStar directly: None. ScienceStar does not set any first-party cookies.
Cookies set by Google AdSense: Google AdSense may set third-party cookies for the limited non-personalised purposes described in Section 4 (frequency capping, aggregated reporting, fraud detection). These cookies do not track your browsing across other websites for advertising purposes under our non-personalised ads configuration.
Cookies set by Google Fonts: Google Fonts may log a request when fonts are loaded. This does not identify you personally.
Cookie consent notice: A cookie consent notice appears at the bottom of this Site when you first visit. You may accept or decline optional cookies. Declining will not restrict your access to any content on ScienceStar. Your preference is stored in your browser's localStorage.
6Third-Party Services
ScienceStar uses the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Google AdSense (Google LLC) — serves advertisements. Non-personalised ads configured site-wide. Google Privacy Policy
- Google Fonts (Google LLC) — provides web fonts loaded from Google's servers. Google may log font requests including your IP address. Google Fonts Privacy FAQ
- Netlify (Netlify Inc.) — hosts and serves the ScienceStar website. Netlify may log server access data including IP addresses for security purposes. This data is not shared with ScienceStar. Netlify Privacy Policy
We do not use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Hotjar, or any other analytics service. We do not use social media plugins, affiliate tracking, or marketing attribution tools of any kind.
7Local Storage and Browser Data
ScienceStar uses your browser's localStorage (not cookies) to save your quiz scores, XP points, flashcard progress, and study preferences locally on your own device.
- This data is stored only on your device — it is never transmitted to ScienceStar's servers or to any third party
- We cannot access, read, or view your localStorage data
- You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data
- Using private or incognito browsing mode clears localStorage data when you close the browser window
8Your Rights Under PDPA
Under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2012, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — you may request what personal data we hold about you. Since we hold none (except any emails you have sent us), we will confirm this promptly
- Right of correction — you may request correction of any inaccurate personal data we hold
- Right of withdrawal — you may withdraw consent for any data processing at any time
- Right to complain — you may contact the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) of Singapore at pdpc.gov.sg or call 1800-835-6533
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@primayscience.org. We aim to respond to all privacy-related enquiries within 5 business days.
9Security
ScienceStar takes reasonable and appropriate measures to protect the security of the Site and its users:
- The entire Site is served over HTTPS — all data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted
- We do not operate databases containing user personal information, eliminating the risk of a data breach exposing user records
- Our hosting provider (Netlify) maintains enterprise-grade security infrastructure including DDoS protection
- We do not store payment information of any kind — the Site is entirely free
If you discover a security vulnerability on the Site, please report it to us at hello@primayscience.org.
