O-Level Science in Singapore covers three distinct pathways. Pure Biology (6093), Pure Chemistry (6092) and Pure Physics (6091) each have their own full syllabus, assessed across Paper 1 (MCQ), Paper 2 (structured questions) and Paper 3 (practical). Combined Science — offered as Biology–Chemistry (5086/5088) or Physics–Chemistry (5105/5131) — covers selected content from two disciplines in a single subject, and is taken by the majority of students in the Express and Normal Academic streams.

Is Combined Science enough to get into a good polytechnic course?
Yes — most polytechnic courses accept Combined Science, including allied health, engineering, IT, business and hospitality programmes. A small number of courses (such as certain engineering diplomas or pre-university science tracks) specify that applicants must have at least one Pure Science. Check your target course's specific requirements on the polytechnic website.
Do I need all three Pure Sciences to go to JC?
No. You do not need to take all three Pure Sciences at O-Level. However, to take certain JC H2 Science combinations (such as H2 Biology + H2 Chemistry, or H2 Physics + H2 Chemistry), most JCs require that you have the corresponding Pure Science at O-Level. Many JCs also consider Combined Science as meeting the science prerequisite for H1 Science combinations. Check individual JC cut-off points and prerequisite policies for your intended H2 combination.
How many topics are there per subject?
The SEAB syllabus for each Pure Science has approximately 10–12 main content areas.
